Alohomora (AL-o-ho-MOR-ah) The term ‘Alohomora’ comes from sikidi, a form of divination from the Malagasy people of Madagascar. It is the name of a magical symbol which means ‘friendly to thieves’ (trans.).
It is theorized that related systems of divination in sub-Saharan Africa, such as Ifá and sikidy, either were based on or co-developed with Arabic divination systems; the use of binary numbers is a distinct trait in the culture of the African plains.
